Skype - Free Internet telephony that just works

Skype - Free Internet telephony that just works

Well I figure that I've spent too long fiddling with the web development side of this project and not long enough with the actual content. And as this is a web log I figure I should start actually blogging (that and hopefully it will cover up the fact that I still haven't fixed the site's plumbing yet...)

Anyway Skype - after having this product hyped up to me no end by some friends I tried to get my mum online expecting great things from it. I firstly did a bit of due-dilligence, checking it was genuinely free of spyware and adware etc. It seemed to check out so we both downloaded and registered. Unfortunatley for some reason my mum's microphone which works fine on my dad's computer produces nothing but static on her PC, so although they could hear me, I couldn't hear them at all. So the experiment is postponed until we can sort out the hardware at her end or else get my dad set up with skype.

Our new table

This weekend was momentous for another reason. It was the first time we actually got to use our dining room as a dining room. Having put in a few days of hard work clearing out our unofficial storage area we finally had the floor-space to go ahead and order ourselves a new table and benches. So we got the smaller Radius set from habitat and excitedly put them together in our front room. We then bought all the necesarry for our first Sunday lunch which we enjoyed on our very own dining furniture in our very own dining room. We even wore slippers. Wow, we are so domesticated it makes my head hurt...

Anyway back to bug fixing for this release. This lunchtime I think I will fix up the last few bits of broken technology on the pages and then maybe I can have a an overhaul of the "look and feel" of my pages, get rid some old dead entries etc. etc.

So the formatting is mucked up and everything is a mess but this is it! My website is now powered by blogger but formatted by XSLT and CSS.

It's the dawning of a new age.
